Water Underfloor Heating Under Concrete/Screed

Installing water underfloor heating under new concrete or screed is one of the most popular and cost-effective options available today. By encasing the underfloor heating pipes within the screed or concrete, the entire floor warms up like a large storage radiator, efficiently distributing heat throughout the space. This type of system is typically used in new build homes, extensions, or conservatories.

Staple System
  • A foil-faced insulation board, such as Kingspan or Celotex, is first laid onto the concrete subfloor.
  • The pipework is then clipped directly onto the insulation board for secure placement.
  • After testing the pipework, it is covered with either a traditional sand and cement screed or a pumped anhydrite screed.
Clip Rail System
  • Our clip rail system is perfect for situations where clipping directly to the insulation isn’t possible, often due to floor height restrictions limiting insulation thickness.
  • The self-adhesive rails come in 1-metre lengths and can be easily adhered directly to the subfloor.
  • Pipes are clipped into the rails at the required spacing, ready for screed installation as usual.
  • Note: If thicker foil-faced insulation boards cannot be fitted, you can opt for our ProWarm™ insulated tile backer boards, which are only 6mm thick. These can be adhered to the concrete sub-base with flexible tile adhesive, and the clip rail can be attached directly to them before applying the screed as normal.
ProCrate Egg Crate
  • This system uses a traditional method for underfloor heating installation.
  • Pipes are clipped into an egg crate-style plastic tray.
  • The tray is covered with screed as usual.
  • Lacks insulation beneath the tray, which can impact efficiency.
  • Generally more expensive than direct clipping systems.
